Two manuscript journals in French by a Dutch army Lieutenant Colonel in Dutch and British service, written in brown ink on laid paper, in a Latin hand. Each leaf was creased vertically to divide the pages into two columns, with the main text in the right column and some additions, notes and headings in the left column. Contemporary coarse brown paper wrappers, with the 1771 journal in loose bifolia (never sewn) inserted before the 1774 journal, which is sewn into the wrappers through three holes.
