Including a long poem on the virtues of jenever

HENNEBO, Robert.
Verzamelde dicht-werken.
The Hague, Pieter van Os; Leiden, Pieter van der Eyk and Johannes Le Mair, etc., [1767]. 8vo. With 2 half-page engravings in the text. Contemporary half calf.
€ 450
First and only edition of the collected poems of the mysterious and adventurous Robert Hennebo (1685-173), who with variable success worked as soldier, barkeeper, real estate agent and share broker. Of particular interest is the long poem "'Lof der Jenever" (pp. 21-47), a satirical poem in praise of the Dutch national liquor "jenever" (Dutch Gin), written during the time Hennebo was landlord of the pub "Het gulden vlies van Jason" in Amsterdam. Forbes enthusiastically cites a whole verse.
Binding slightly rubbed along the extremities and some minor waterdamage in the margins of the first few leaves, but otherwise in very good condition and wholly untrimmed.
BMN I, p. 496; Scheepers I, p. 184; Waller 702; cf. Forbes, Short history of the art of distillation 295 & pp. 193-194.
