Third (second combined) edition, with minor corrections, of Petrus Scriverius's extensively annotated collection of the poetical and emblematic works of the famous Dutch and Neo-Latin poet and Leiden professor Daniel Heinsius (1580-1655). The present edition includes Scriverius's original dedications to Jacob van Dijck, ambassador to King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden.
The presswork is unusually good so that the very small roman and italic used for the notes remains very legible. With a water stain in the lower outside corner of some leaves, but otherwise in very good condition. A classic of Dutch poetry and emblemata, with numerous engravings. Landwehr, Emblem and fable books Low Countries 297; Praz, p. 366; De Vries 33; cf. Fontaine Verwey, Uit de wereld van het boek II, p. 74, no. 31; Franken, De Passe 1348.
