Rare first edition of a Latin-Dutch dictionary of botanical, pharmacological and medical words by Johann Hermann Knoop (1700-1769). Knoop held the position of curator of the botanical gardens of Mariënburg, the manor house (near Leeuwarden) of Princess Maria Louisa von Hessen Kassel, widow of Johan Willem Friso, Prince of Orange, and regent for their grandson the Dutch Stadtholder Willem V. Knoop was most renowned for his books on pomology and horticulture. He also taught mathematics in Leeuwarden.
