Revised and enlarged edition of a practical manual on perspective, one of the popular encyclopaedic manuals of Roret. The work discusses both linear and aerial perspective, as well as the study of design and painting specifically applied to the landscape. The final chapter describes and explains the use of various colours, such as cobalt blue, Naples yellow, carmine, and Scheele's green, which had not yet been forbidden by this time. The work contains 8 large, folding plates, which illustrate the theory on perspective.
With the bookplates of the Hochfürstlich- Salm-Krautheimische Schloss-Bibliothek, and Schloss Dyck mounted on the front pastedown, a paper label from the latter at the head of the spine, and a small black stamp (Furst zu salm) on the title page. The boards are somewhat rubbed, the joints are slightly weakened, but the structural integrity of the binding is still intact. The work is lightly browned and foxed throughout. Otherwise in good condition. Cat. Kunsthist. Bibl. Rijksmuseum I, p. 234; WorldCat 6814860, 491862182; cf. Vagnetti FIb49 (later eds.); not in Berlin Kat.
