First French edition of Timkowski's account of his mission to Beijing via Mongolia (1820-1821), revised by J.B. Eyriès and corrected and annotated by the distinguished sinologist Heinrich Julius Klaproth. The narrative elaborates on the country of the Kalkas, the desert of Gobi, the territory of the Sounite Mongols, Beijing, dress and laws of the Chinese, conversations with Catholic Missionaries, Turkestan, Little Bucharia, the country of the Soungarians, Tibet, the Chinese army, the manners and customs of the inhabitants, the geography and ethnography of Mongolia and the country of the Tsakhars. It includes a plan of Beijing.
