Unrecorded issue of the best edition of Ricard's classic on commerce, finance, and insurance, including commercial laws and customs, with an emphasis on the Low Countries. First published in 1700, the work has by now grown into two stout volumes. The present edition has been revised, enlarged, and brought up to date by the Spanish merchant Thómas Antonio de Marien y Arróspide. The present copy is a different issue of the 1781 edition published by E. van Harrreveld and A. Soetens that has been recorded on the STCN, as the second volume has a slightly different collation. The text itself, however, is identical. As the manual was heavily used, good copies are now quite scarce.
With a contemporary ownership annotation on the title page of each volume, and a later ownership inscription ("Duval"). The work has been rebacked, the edges and corners of the boards are scuffed, the boards are rubbed. Internally clean, with only several dog ears, a few ink stains and animal bite marks on the edges of the leaves. Otherwise in good condition. Einaudi 4732; Kress B-415; cf. STCN 181067048 (4 copies, different issue); not in Hausdorfer.
