Beautiful costume book, depicting costumes from the 22 Swiss cantons in 60 hand coloured full-page plates. The plates are engraved by Franz Niklaus König (1765-1832), and Gabriel Lory (1763-1840). Especially König was a well-known and respected artist in his time, who started his independent career in 1768 with engraved Swiss costume plates. According to Thieme-Becker, most of the present plates were first published from 1801 in the Helvetischen Almanach.
With two paper library labels on the spine, and the library stamp of the F. F. Bibliothek Donaueschingen on the verso of the title page. The spine is slightly discoloured, with traces of wear at the head and foot, the joints are slightly weakened. Internally in very good condition. Colas 1654; cf. Lipperheide 904 (1811 ed.); Thieme-Becker XXI, p. 160 (Koenig); Thieme-Becker XXIII, p. 399 (Lory).
