Collection of four works on Roman history, published at Florence by Filippo Giunta in his last year: Herodian's Historiae, in eight books, from Marcus Aurelius to Gordian III (180-238 CE). This edition is dedicated to Pope Innocentius VIII and gives Herodians text in Angelo Polizianos elegant Latin translation of the original Greek, first published in a folio volume in 1493. Although a bit moralizing, it is especially valuable for Herodian's contemporary knowledge. The second work, De vita et moribus Imperatorum Romanorum, excerpta ex libris Sexti Aurelii Victoris, à Caesare Augusto usque ad Theodosium Imperatorum is an epitome of Aurelius's Caesares, giving biographies of the Roman emperors from Augustus to Theodosius. The last two works are Eutropius, De gesta Romanorum in ten books, and the additional books 11 to 18 by Paulus Diaconus.
With occasional old underlining and manuscript notes, and an owner's early photographic portrait mounted on fly-leaf. Some slight stains at the beginning; a few wormholes at the end. In good condition. Adams H376; BMC STC Italian, p. 326; Barbéra, I Giunti tipografi ..., 98; ; USTC 835656.
