Remarkable collection of 21 official Vietnamese documents, written on rice paper in Classical Chinese, and with red government stamps. The collection includes memorials and communications from higher government offices to lower ones, and discusses, among other things, the problem of damage to and abandonment of agricultural land due to criminal activities. All documents are dated, mostly to the 1860s, during the French conquest of Vietnam (1858-1885). Little is known about Vietnamese official documents of this period, making the present collection especially important.
A complete list of contents is available upon request.
With red official stamps in seal script on most of the documents. The documents are lightly browned, a few are slightly (water) stained, some of the double leaves are cut or torn on the folds. Otherwise in good condition.
