Autograph letter by the Scottish explorer Basil Hall, who made a voyage to the west coast of Korea and China (1815-1817), and voyages to South America (1820-1823) and North America (1827-1828).
In the letter Hall thanks the French vice-admiral Aaron Louis Frédéric Regnault, Baron de la Susse (1788-1860) who was the commander in the Levant and captain of L'Inflexible, for the offered breakfast on the vessel. Hall commanded many ships involved in exploration and scientific and diplomatic missions. He described his travels in a several publications. These include his narrative of the Korean voyage titled Account of a voyage of discovery to the west coast of Corea and the great Loo-Choo Island (1818), which was one of the first descriptions of Korea by a European, and Extracts from a Journal Written on the Coasts of Chile, Peru and Mexico (1823).
