First edition of a work with previously unpublished letters from Jesuit missionaries in China, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. The 29 letters, compiled by father Visschers, come from, and are directed to, several Jesuit fathers, including letters from the missionaries Ferdinand Verbiest (1623-1688), Philippe Couplet (1623 - 1693), and Petrus van Hamme (1651-1727). All the letters are published in their original languages, mostly in Latin, but some in Dutch and Portuguese.
With some owners' stamps on title-page. Slightly foxed, a tear in page 53 and lacking the index following the text. Overall a good copy, most of the quires still unopened.
Cordier, Sinica, col. 1021.
