Dutch translation of an extensive description by the Scottish James Stuart of his three year-travel to North-America from August 1828 to April 1831. In three volumes, translated from the third English edition of 1833, he describes several cities and other important sites in North America. He begins at New York City and travels on to, among others, Albany, Auburn, Buffalo and the Niagara Falls, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, Alabama, New Orleans, the Mississippi River and the state of Ohio. Stuart describes his travel and the places he saw along his way in all their facets, discussing American education, agriculture and commercial trade, but also governmental issues, religion and slavery. This account is riddled with fascinating historical events that happened during his stay.
With the bookplate of the "Bibliotheek van Doctrina & Amicitia" on the front paste-down of each volume. Bindings very slightly worn. Some foxing on the first few pages of volume 1 and some small stains throughout the three volumes, but otherwise still in good condition. Howes S1099; Nieuwsblad voor den boekhandel, 6 January 1836; Sabin 93168; cf. Howes S1099 (English edition); Sabin 93170 (English edition).
