First edition of this renowned work on the Haarlem region, presenting a lively account of a group undertaking four extensive walks, while making detailed historical, topographical, and natural-historical observations of the surrounding landscape. They visit (in order): Heemstede, Aerdenhout, Bentveld, Zandvoort, Overveen, Bennebroek, Hillegom, Schoten, Santpoort, Bloemendaal, Velsen, Schalkwijk, Nieuwerkerk, Penningsveer, Haarlemmerliede, Spaarnwoude, Spaarndam and Beverwijk. The work is illustrated with 4 very fine hand coloured views by Franciscus Andreas Milatz (1764-1808), and 5 leaves of sheet music for songs composed by Jean Freubel (1763-1828), concertmaster at the Amsterdamsche Schouwburg. An addition to the work, consisting of a folding map of Haarlem and surroundings, and a "Bijvoegsel" with a list of the country estates in the area, was published in 1805 and is not present here.
Lacking the "Bijvoegsel" published in 1805, and the folding map of Haarlem and surroundings. The boards and spine are somewhat rubbed. Several leaves with a water stain in the lower outer corner, sometimes affecting a few words. Otherwise in good condition.
