First and only edition of a comprehensive monograph on Hemiptera, the most important publication of the French lawyer and entomologist Charles Jean Baptiste Amyot (1799-1866). Upon the death of his father, Amyot went to live with his neighbour, the entomologist Jean Guillaume Audinet-Serville, who stimulated him to do research in the neglected order of insects Hemiptera. They became lifelong friends and research partners. It was published as parts of the Suites à Buffon, a long series of monographs on natural history edited by Nicolas Roret.
With the armorial bookplate of the French entomologist Ernest Olivier (1844-1914). Some scattered foxing, but otherwise in very good condition. BMC NH, p. 41; Horn & Schenkling 20186 (listed under Serville); Nissen, ZBI 107.
