Rare and interesting collection of travel manuscripts and documents, consisting of personal memories and descriptions of voyages undertaken by C.H. Tromp (1824 - ca. 1911) from Woudsend, Friesland, to Russia and Germany, often nicely illustrated and with some views and photographs added. The travel journals, with picturesque descriptions of the voyage itself, the places visited and the people, illustrated with charming ink drawings, invite us in a very personal way to experience how people travelled around 1850, what their interests were, their means of transport, the time it took, and the expenses, the way they looked at foreign customs and habits, etc.
Lid of boxes slightly damaged; some views foxed. Rich collection of travel documents.
