First French translation of part of De Marini's account of Tonkin and Laos, first published in Italian in 1663. Of the original five books of the Italian edition, the present includes book one and part of book five. It is divided into two parts (Relation nouvelle and Histoire nouvelle), the first devoted to Tonkin (today part of Vietnam) and the second to Laos. Giovanni Filippo de Marini (1608-1682) served as a Jesuit missionary in Goa, Macao, and Tonkin, but he also visited Siam and Japan.
