Presentation copy of the first edition of the first pharmacopoeia for the United Kingdom of the Netherlands (which included what is now Belgium). During the French occupation the Netherlands introduced a new modern institutionalized central government that made one general guideline for all apothecaries a logical step. All previous pharmacopoeias were declared obsolete and apothecaries were to follow the new general rules that could be consulted in the present publication. Every copy was numbered and signed for authenticity.
With a presentation inscription in ink on the first free end paper: "Aan den Inspecteur Generaal van den Geneeskundigen dienst des Rijks, voor het Civiele Geneeskundige Bureau, van den Minister van Binnenlandsche Zaken en Water-staat". Front board partly detached from bookblock and the binding slightly rubbed along the extremities, but internally in very good condition. Vandewiele, p. 307; Wellcome IV, p. 368; Wittop Koning, pp. 230-232.
