Second edition, revised and enlarged, of a detailed handbook for the cultivation of peach trees, with 21 chapters covering the various species and their characteristics, choise of a sort for an orchard, preparation of the soil, planting, tending, insect pests, diseases, harvesting, transporting and transplanting, etc. It was first published in 1745, translated into English in 1768, and editions continued to appear into the 19th century. Later editions give the author's name as De Combles, and Raphael tentatively identifies him as Jean de Combles (not Combes, as Barbier suggests), probably born ca. 1710 to a Lyons family. From the personal experiences related in his text, it is clear that he was himself a practicing peach grower with a garden near Paris. With an occasional minor spot and the edge of one leaf dirty, binding slightly waterstained. Good copy with an 18th-century bookplate and a 1952 bookplate in colour.
