Nicely illustrated short story Willem Josephus van Zeggelen (1811-1879) and Arnold Ising (1824-1898) about a simple farmer's daughter from the province La Marche in France, who had such a beautiful voice that a rich old nobleman adopted her and sent her to the Academy of Music in Paris. She became famous as the "jewel of La Marche" and married her noble protector. Many songs are inserted into the story.
The two authors were well-known for their popular picture books.
