Original and only edition of the annual oration Nicolaas Ypey (1714-1785) has held in 1790 being the Rector Magnificus of the University of Franeker. Ypey was Professor of Fortification at Franeker since 1754. This oration is an extensive account of the life and work of the world famous Dutch military engineer, Menno van Coehoorn (1634-1704) - the Dutch Vauban - who greatly contributed to the art of fortification in the 17th century.
