Rome, Bartolomeo Zannetti, 1615. 8vo. Contemporary (or sl. later) vellum. Woodcut 'IHS' vignette on title, woodcut ornaments and initials. 165 (1 blank) pp.

Very rare edition of this Italian work, reporting on the Jesuit mission in India, The Oriental, the province Goa and parts of Africa undertaken by the Jesuit Society. Girolamo (also called Hieronymus or Jerome) Xavier (1549-1617) is generally considered the author of this work; on pages 14 & 34 two letters from him can be found. Besides this work, Xavier also is the author of Iaponica, Sinensia, Mogorana. Hoc est, de rebus apud eas gentes à patribus Societatis Iesu, ann. 1598. & 99. gestis , published in 1601. A. Camps wrote a book on the life and works of Xavier, who was the great-nephew of the famous St. Francis Xavier. Apparently there were 2 editions of this work which were both printed in 1615; one in Rome by Bartolomeo Zannetti (our copy) and 1 in Naples by Lazaro Scoriggio. Both editions are rare and very hard to find.

- Relatione della missione, de; regno di Monopotapà (pp. 39-47).
