Second enlarged and revised edition of an important art historical work on the painters of Haarlem, such as Frans Hals and Van Ostade by Adriaan van der Willigen Pz.(1810-1876). The first edition was published in Dutch, ''Geschiedkundige aanteekeningen over Haarlemsche schilders'' in Haarlem, 1866.
The author of the present work is the cousin of Adriaan van der Willigen (1766-1841), one of the first Dutch art historians and a famous collector of art and books, from whom he inherited the large art collection and library. He enlarged the collection and library considerably. The library was auctioned  by Fred. Muller at Amsterdam, in 1875.

Good copy. (Binding sl. ribbed; ome browning in first endpapers and leaves with signatures).
