Refutation of forged Amsterdam council minutes purportedly intending to halt financial support for the ailing West Indies Company

Modern wrappers. 36 pp. Examination of the false resolution of the Burgomasters and council of Amsterdam on the question of the West India Company. The present pamphlet is a response to Copye Vande Resolutie van de Heeren Burgemeesters ende Raden tot Amsterdam ... (Asher 250-252), which is a fictitious account of a meeting of the Amsterdam municipal council. According to the contents, the burgomasters had given up hope that the WIC could recover from the Portuguese uprising in Brazil and they argued for a cessation of financial support. As a consequence many small investors in the WIC would loose their savings. The author of the present pamphlet is outraged that fictitious minutes have been used to antagonize the population against the burgomasters. In a minute analysis of the Copye, he shows that its contents are entirely fabricated and that the author was wrong in many respects.
