A brilliant mind and a most gifted author, he led a colourful but disreputable life, was many times compelled to flee the country because of his irregular love-affairs, and ended by setting everybody against him by his biting pen to such a degree that the court at The Hague, in 1739, sentenced him to prison for life. About 10 years after his death F.L. Kersteman published a spicy biography of Weyerman, but official Dutch literary history long refused to accept his works. Fine large paper copy.- (Little scorch marks on a few lvs.; spine of binding somewhat rubbed).
Scheepers II, 301; De Vries (Weyerman) 33.
