First and only editions of these three plays written by Georg Wetstein for the Amsterdam Theatre. All three plays rank among the better, well written plays from the beginning of the eighteenth century, composed by order of the board of the Amsterdam Orphanage and Old men's home, at the same time the board of the Amsterdam Theatre.

The original washed and tinted (and coloured (3)) drawings, or designs for the three engraved frontispieces are mounted and bound in after the engraved frontispiece of each play. The artist of the first, draughtsman and engraver, is Abraham Zeeman (1695-1754); Jan Wandelaar (1690-1759) is the draughtsman and engraver of the frontispiece of the second play.

The book is magnificently bound for the wealthy Amsterdam merchant Aaron de Joseph de Pinto (1710-1758), who was of Jewish-Portuguese origin. De Pinto was a book collector and had his books bound mainly by two binders: (1) an Amsterdam binder working for him in the years 1743-1765, and (2) the so-called 'Heraldische Lelie-binderij' (or Fleur-de-Lis Bindery) at The Hague, working for De Pinto during the years around 1735-40. Four stamps and a roll of this bindery are used for the binding of our copy, as well as stamp B of the three stamps with the coat-of-arms of De Pinto and a stamp with the monogram with his initials: 'A J D P'.
Fine magnificently bound copy for Aaron de Joseph de Pinto, with the engraved book-plates of De Pinto and Six van Hillegom, pasted to the verso of the first end-paper.
