Introducing a more advanced spelling method

With woodcut of a cock on verso title. (16) pp. Adapted version of the traditional "Haneboek". The woodcut on verso title presents again another variant, showing a large cock with at his feet a rising sun, and a very small cock picking the earth. The author, Hendrik Wester (1752-1821), tried to modernize the old familiar "Haneboek" by introducing into it a more advanced spelling method, working from simple letter-combinations towards full words instead of directly from the single letters to the reading exercises. So he inserted, after the alphabet in 6 different types, an extra spelling section with words of two letters, words of one syllable without compound consonants, dissyllables, words with compound consonants, words with diphthongs, and one-syllable words with a varying number of letters put into simple verse. Only then follow the traditional reading exercises. At the end instead of the "Christian A B C", there is an educational verse printed in Roman lettertype. Good copy of an interesting "Haneboek".- (Binding loose).
