Fridrich, 19 (of 21) engraved plates (one folding; one unnumbered, the others numbered A-V; B and D lacking), 6 repeated woodcut headpieces and 1 folding letterpress table. (8), 286, (58) pp. Ad 1: The first German edition of this important chronicle on Augsburg, translated by Engelbert Werlich. The first of the three parts was written by Markus Welser (1558-1614) himself. It is a translation of his Rerum Augustanarum Vindelicarum libri VIII, published in 1594. The other 2 parts are a translation by Wolfgang Hartmann of the Annales civitatis ac rei publicae Augsburgensis by Achilles Pirmin Gasser (1505-1577),first published in 1572. Apart from this impressive and influential chronicle of Augsburg, Welser is also known from his publication of the famous Tabula Peutingeriana, a 13th century copy of a Roman travel map from the collection of Konrad Peutinger in Augsburg. Welser's activities as a scholar, meacanas, magistrate of Augsburg, as well as publisher/printer make him one of the most important figures of German late humanism. Ad 2: The first German edition (first Latin edition: Inscriptiones antiquae Augustae Vindelicorum (1590)). The nice anonymous woodcuts depict the ancient monuments of the city, mostly Roman reliefs but also (full-page) the remains of a mosaic floor. Ad 3: Second edition of this important work on the magistrate and government of Augsburg includiing long lists of burgomasters and other magistrates. Ad 1 and 2: Good copies.- (Occ. sl. browned; library ticket on upper pastedown and remains of ticket on lower pastedown; blind library stamp in title-page of the first work; hinges weak; upper and lower compartment of spine strengthened with cloth tape; covers chafed and outer corners worn); ad 3: Lacks 2 plates but text complete; browning throughout.
