First edition, first issue of a fine educational emblem book based on various aspects of nature and human nature, with the emblems designed by the celebrated Dutch artists Jan and Caspar Luyken, and with Latin verses by the German engraver and publisher Johann Christoph Weigel (1661-1726). Some occasional spotting/soiling (mainly on title); binding slightly rubbed. Fine copy of the library of Jean Cousin, with his pasted ex libris on recto first endpaper.
