First part contains 11 folding lithographed plates and the second part 12 such plates. 4, 62, 43 pp. The two parts each have a seperate title page dated 1849. The first part deals with fencing using a small sword, arranged for instruction in squads or classes. The second part teaches the exercise for the broadsword, sabre, and how to cut and thrust and stick. Henry Constantine Wayne (1810-1883) was an officer in the United States Army, best known for commanding the experimental U.S. Camel Corps that procured camels in Turkey in 1855-6 and tested them for transportion uses in the American West. During the Civil War Wayne served the Confederate Army as a brigadier general, and as adjutant and inspector-general for the state of Georgia. Good copy.
