Second Major-edition of this classic manual for anglers. The first part, the book by Izaak Walton (1593-1683), became very popular and is now a classic in its field. It is partly written in dialogues between a fisherman and a passer-by, and it gives advice on all issues of angling as a gentlemen's recreation at the beginning of the 17th century. It also includes an angler's song with musical scores for two voices printed on facing pages, the scores for the bass printed upside down so the book could be used by two singers facing each other. It was first published in 1653.
The second part is written by the English poet Charles Cotton (1630-1687), who was Walton's adopted son. His friendship with Izaak Walton began about 1655. Cotton contributed this second section, Instructions how to angle for a trout or grayling in a clear stream to Walton's The Compleat angler. The additions consist of twelve chapters on fishing in clear water, which he understood largely but not exclusively to be flyfishing.
