Engraved title, vignette on printed title, 13 half-page engraved plates and 31 portraits of the Counts of Holland, Zeeland and Friesland, beginning with Dirk I till Philips II, all bit the last after the drawings by W. Thibaut, with coat-of-arms and within a laurel wreath (the portrait of Philips II: in oval with Latin legend and 6-line Latin poem underneathafter Car. Veenhuysen by Chr. van de Passe: from the De Passe series Viva et vera delineatio quatuor potentissimorem totius Europae monarcharum ...), woodcut initials and tail-pieces. Collation A-Z4, A-D, Ee-Nn4, A-F4, G2. First edition of a chronicle in verse on the history of the Low Countries until the year 1560 by Caspar Wachtendorp (d. 1700) with portraits of the counts of Holland, Zeeland and Friesland from Dirk I to Philips II. Our copy is the issue which is dedicated to the burgomasters of Amsterdam (there are also copies dedicated to the States General). A second edition was published in The Hague in 1648 by Anth. Tongerloo, I. Verhoeven, and S. de Putter. There is a laudatory poem by Johannes P. Muller van Hoornbach on f. A4v and plates of the Flood, the first bishop of Utrecht Willebrord, the murder on Floris V, a mermaid, the sea battle at Wieringen, the anabaptists at Amsterdam, etc. At the end (f. A1r-G2v) is Wachtendorp's 'Lof des Vredes'. Good copy with the bookplate of Jean Caspar Joseph de Kohausen de Büschendorf.- (Ownership's entry on title erased).
