Provisionally bound with the original printed wrappers, uncut. 92 pp. Rare work on the tribe of the Osage Indians as well as other Indians living on the Missouri, written by Paul Vissier when six Osages, a prince, his wife, cousin, and three warriors, visited France. In the first chapters, Vissier speculates on the origin of the North American Indians, with special attention to the Osages, and provides a general view of their customs, agriculture, food, social structure, law system, arts, religion, commerce, wars, etc. The last two chapters describe the voyage of the six Osages to France, including their visit to the French king, and give some additional information on their personal backgrounds.
