Enschedé, Haarlem, 1918. 2 vols. Folio. Original richly decorated red cloth with gilt title on spine and gilt monogram of Albrecht Dürer on front cover. Vol 1: Frontispiece portrait of Allbrecht Dürer, 92 illustrations on 75 plates, 8 illustrations in text, red printed initial. Vol 2: Frontispiece illustration, 1 full-page illustration and 105 illustrations pasted in the text. (14), 93, (5); (8), 309, (3 blank) pp. Very nice work on Albrecht Dürers Dutch journey, which he made from June 12th 1520 until August 1521. He visited many places along the Rhine, where he stayed with many well-known artist and writers, such as Erasmus. During his journey he went to places like Sittard, Tilburg, Middelburg, etc. The work was printed by Johannes Enschedé from Haarlem in a limited number and is lavishly illustrated with many of Dürers works. The work was already expensive when it was just published; 150 guilders. Good set.- (Some sl. staining, foxing and browning).
