Justifying the Dutch wars against Philip of Spain

(2), 48, (2 blank) pp. Treatise justifying the Dutch wars against Philip of Spain, written by 'eenen Nederlandschen Edelman' (a Dutch nobleman) whose real name is Willem Verheiden. It is translated from the Latin edition ( De iure belli Belgici adversus Philippum regen Hispaniarum...), first printed in 1596 at Albertus Henricus from The Hague (cf. Knnuttel 954). The humanist Verheiden, born in Grave in 1568, studied in Leyden and later went to Germany and Venice for some time. He served as lieutenant of the infantry and died in Hulst while fighting against a large group of Spaniards. Good uncut copy.
