First edition of the first monograph and catalogue raisonné of the work of the Lorraine artist, Sebastien Le Clerc (1637-1714), famous draughtsman and engraver, contributor also to the Cabinet du Roy of Louis XIV. Le Clerc also introduced a new and easy method of perspective, still used today by painters and graphic artists. His oeuvre catalogue is added at the end (pp. 203-23). The portrait of Le Clerc, especially made for this little book of praise, is often lacking, but an owner of the present copy has found the portrait later, and has mounted it facing the title.

Nice copy.
