Batavia, C.C. Renhard, 1758. Folio. Blue paper wrappers. Woodcut printer's device on title, folding genealogical table, 3 large woodcut circles in text, woodcut head-and endpieces, woodcut initials. (4), 120, with the errata leaf inserted.

First edition of this history of the Mogol Empire and its southern empires. Landwehr mentions that this work is based on François Valentijn's history of the Dutch East Indies: Oud en Nieuw Oost-Indiën (1724-26), Vol. IV,2, with some additions and revisions. The printer's mark was borrowed from R. & G. Wetstein, Amsterdam. Some copies have an extra folio leaf following 2G with errata (the leaf is loosely inserted in our copy!). The woodcut circles, on p. 33, 36 & 39 respectively, show illustrations of seals of the Moguls Eurangzeeb, Prince Mohamed Azem and Mahomed Sjah.
The Mogul Empire was an imperial power which ruled most of the Indian subcontinent from the early 16th to the mid-19th centuries. At the height of its power, around 1700, it controlled most of the subcontinent and parts of what is now Afghanistan. After 1725 the empire declined rapidly.

Fine copy with the errata leaf.
Landwehr, VOC, 561; Van der Chijs II, p. 18.
