(4), 12 pp. First edition of an arcadic poem, glorifying the landscapes surrounding Haarlem and Zandvoort, by Gijsbert Tijsens (or Tysens) (1693-1732), poet and writer of comedies, illustrated with 12 landscape engravings by Claesz. Jansz. Visscher (1587-1652), which are published here for the second time. The engravings were originally published earlier, without the poem, by Claesz. Jansz. Visscher at Amsterdam in 1611 under the title: "Plaisante plaetsen''. "The earliest topographic print series in the Northern Netherlands. It is remarkable to see that such a high quality was achieved immediately with such a new theme" (V.d. Steur). With his landscapes, Visscher "began the development of the realistic Dutch landscape" (Laurentius, Oude Prenten, p. 35). The landscapes show the village of Zandvoort, its beach with an ancient lighthouse, inns and churches, peasants sun-bleaching cloth in the fields, a leper-house, farms, country roads, the ruins of the "Huis te Cleef" near Haarlem, etc., all showing people, animals, wagons, boats, etc. in scenes from daily life. Another edtion of the plates with the poem was published in 1748, now with the name of the author Tysens on the title. List of plates: 1. Allegorical frontispiece with the Haarlem coat of arms flanked by Diligentia displaying a view of Haarlem and Father Time with sythe and hourglass. With the four-line verse: 'Wie vreugde en wellust..
