German translation of Tollens' famous poem on the search by Heemskerk for the North-Eastern passage to the East Indies and his stay at Nova Zembla in the years 1596-7. It contains extensive notes explaining to children all names and subjects, animals, geographic and historical situations mentioned in Tollens' poem, by the Dutch historian P.W. Quack. The book is richly illustrated with woodcuts of eskimoes and flora and fauna of the region, including a map of Nova Zembla. The first Dutch edition titled 'Tafereel van de overwintering der Hollanders op Nova Zembla in de jaren 1596 en 1597' was published in 1819.
