Rare first edition of Westerbaen's Dutch adaptation of Terentius' comedy about the brothers Micio and Demea and the adventures of the latter's sons Aeschinus and Ctesipho. In 1663, a combined edition of Westerbaen's translations of Terentius' six comedies appeared, in which the present work was republished. Jacob Westerbaen (1599-1670), studied theology and medicine in Leyden. He received his doctorate in medicine in Caen, in 1622, after which he returned to the place where he was born, The Hague. Here he ran a very succesful practice. Through his marriage with the wealthy widow Anna Weytsen in 1625, he became Lord of Brantwyck and Ghybelant. After her death in 1647 he founded the estate Ockenburgh, where he lived from 1652 onwards. Here, he had time to produce his many literary achievements. In 1672, a posthumous combined edition of his poems was published.

Good copy.- (Vaguely waterst. at the beginning; occ. very slightly foxed).
