Second edition - printed in 300 copies - of this outstanding pastoral play from the Renaissance by Torquato Tasso (1544-1595), printed at the famous Bodoni presses in a beautiful modern binding. This edition is printed in 1792, although the year 1789 of the original edition is still on the title. After comparing the characteristics listed by Brooks, we have to conclude that our copy is the second edition. Aminta is one of the highlights of pastoral plays in the Renaissance period, telling of shepherd Aminta's love for the nymph Silvia. The play consists of 5 acts, all ending with a choir. The theme can be found in Dafne's answer to Silvia, in the first act, the first scene, when she says that time not dedicated to love, is lost forever.
The first edition is the second book printed by Bodoni, which has the imprint 'Co' tipi Bodoniani'.
Beautiful copy on strong and large paper.
