Orig. illustrated colour-printed cloth by Rie Cramer. With frontispiece and 6 colour illustrations by Rie Cramer. 96 pp. First Dutch edition of a Bengali theatre play for children, translated from the English, including an introduction by W.B. Yeats. Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941), was just before and after the First World War one of the most famous representatives of modern India in Europe, especially after he received the Nobel prize for literature in 1913. In The Netherlands his works were much admired and translated by Frederik van Eeden (1860-1932). Tagore's Indian fairy-tales and the present children's play however, were translated by Henry Borel (1869-1933), a Dutch literary author of fame. The play is here beautifully illustrated by Rie Cramer (1887-1977), the "Dutch Kate Greenaway". Good copy.- (Some soiling).
