Contemporary wrappers. Woodcut vignette on title. VIII, 104 pp. First edition of a play by Nicolaas Swart (1773-1843), preacher, teacher and prolific writer in Amsterdam. The ''Maatschappy tot Nut van ''t Algemeen'' , a society of which Swart was a member, organised a contest for writers to write a similar play as the Swiss play of Lienhard and Gertrud by Pestalozzi. The Maatschappij had already organised the contest earlier, but this first time only one unsatisfactory play was sent in. The second time the contest was won by Swart with the present play. A third edition appeared at Amsterdam in 1852. Good copy.- (Spine without covering).
