Genealogia, das ist, Geschlecht Register, oder Stammbaum, und Verzeichnusz aller Potentaten, Keyser, Königen, Ertzhertzogen und Fürsten ... Frankfurt a/M, for Eberhard Kieser, 1629. Folio. With a large folding engraving (920x 465 mm.) of the genealogical tree of the Dukes and Archidukes of Austria. 35 (37) pp. Ad 1: Second German edition of this extremely rare history on the emperors of the Holy Roman Empire from Julius Caesar to Rudolph II and Matthias, originally written in Latin by Octavio de Strada à Rosberg and translated in German by his son Octavio. The first German edition was published in 1618. The original Latin edition was printed in Frankfurt by Joh. Bringer in 1615. Ad 2: Original German edition of this 'Continuation' with the lives of Matthias I and Ferdinand II of Bohmen, till September 1628. Ad 3: First German edition of this 'supplement' to the Chronicle with the large folding engraving of the genealogical tree. The second Latin edition appeared in the same year with the same publisher (printed by C. Totelius), whilst the original Latin edition was published in Frankfurt with Joh. Bringer in 1615. The three very rare and fairly unknown works: 'Newe Keijser Chronich' and its 'Continuation' as well as the 'Genealogia', bound together in one volume form a unique set of texts on the history of the Holy Roman Empire. The first and third work are based on an earlier work by the father of Octavius Sr, Jacob Strada à Rosberg (d. 1588), with the title Imperatorum romanorum ... imagines ex antiquis numismatis (Zürich, A. Gesner, 1559). As the plates are copied from images of the emperors as they appear on coins, the works are also very important for numismatists. Unfortunately there is very little known of the life of Jacob, nor of father (1550-1612) and son Octavio de Strada. Good copies.- (Slightly browned at places; first title cropped; small tear in the folding genealogical tree; red sticker on the first and last leaf and at two more places in the book, apparently over a former library stamp; bookplate of J. Sejnost pasted to the inner side of the front cover).
Ad 1-2: Deutsche Drucke des Barock (Wolffenb.) B 10335-6); one further copy in the BSB; not in NUC. Ad 3: 1 copy in the BSB; not in NUC.
