Very rare second issue of the first and only edition of Christian Ström's thesis which he had defended at the University of Harderwijk in the same year. The first issue is dated '1706'. The work is based on some exceedingly interesting experiments Ström undertook, after having learned to construct a microscope under the tutelage of Leeuwenhoek himself. Ström's research sought to delineate the blood circulation around the heart. He mapped this circulation by injecting wax into the veins and following its path. The plate depicts the results. In addition to this, Ström considers the mechanical action of the heart in pumping blood.
Christian Michaëlsson Ström (Ångermanland (Sweden), 1679 -1710) went, after a medical study in Upsala, to Leyden where he studied under Boerhaave and De Volder. He was promoted to the Doctot'd degree in Harderwijk in 1707.  Another work he wrote before his premature death was Ratiociniorum mechanicorum in medicina usus vindicatus (Leiden, 1707). Later he went back to Sweden and became a member of the medical college and worked for a few years as a provincial doctor in Nerike and Wermland.
The book is complete with the four pages with the stock list of medical books for sale with Janssonius-Van Waesbergen: 'Catalogus  librorum medicorum apud Janssonio-Waesbergios, in copia prostantium'. and a last leaf with the explanation of the plate.

Good copy.- (Old ownership's ms. entry 'della libraria de Capp(ucins?) del ... (?)' on title.
Blake p. 436; Hirsch, Biographisches Lexikon der hervorragenden Aerzte, V, p. 565; not in BMN, nor Garrison & Morton.
