Intriguing anti-Orangist treatise by a friend of Johan de Wit with Isaac de Pinto arms

STOMACHATUS, Aesopus (= Johannes UYTENHAGE DE MIST).
Apologie ofte verantwoordiginge van den ondienst der stadthouderlyke regeeringe. Tegens den hersteller van den Prins van Orangie tot Stadthouder ende Capiteyn Generael der Vereenigde Nederlanden.

Amsterdam, Joan. Cyprianus van der Gragt, 1663. 8vo. Full calf (ca. 1740), gilt fillets along the edges on both sides with a gilt coat of armes of Isaac De Pinto in the centre, spine gilt in compartments with green morocco label lettered in gold, marbled endpapers. (16), 335 pp.

Original edition of this well-known but rare anti-Stadtholder treatise against Prince William III (the later King of England) published under the pseudonym 'Aesopus Stomachatus' by the famous Johannes Uytenhage de Mist (b. ca. 1636), friend of the important 17th century economist Pieter de la Court and together with him a political friend of the Dutch Grand Pensionary Johan de Wit. Most of his highly interesting and intriguing treatises and pamphlets were anonymously published and sometimes it is difficult to ascribe a work with certainty to him. Undoubtedly, however, this treatise is written by Uytenhage de Mist.
Very good copy from the famous library of Isaac de Pinto (1717-1787; NNBW VI, cols. 1124-8) ), bound by the so-called 'Heraldische-leliebinderij' at The Hague.
Knuttel 8794a; Meulman 3998; Van Doorninck, col. 574; NNBW IV, cols. 993-4; binding: Storm van Leeuwen, De achttiende-eeuwse Haagse boekband, p. 79, nrs. 119-21, afb. 12 with the same coat of arms and stamps).
