Houttuyn, 1755. 8vo. Contemporary three-quarter calf with gilt title and old shelf mark pasted on spine. Woodcut device on title, woodcut initials. (8), 769, pp. a-y (= 23), (12) pp. Very rare first and only edition on the ecclesiastical and civil difficulties and alterations that took place in Steenwijk in the Dutch province Overijssel, generally known as the 'Plooierijen', which resulted often in fights and arrests. The work extensively describes the ecclesiastical and governmental changes and procedures in the alterations in the years 1745 till 1750, marking the end of the period without a stadholder and the nomination of Willem Karel Hendrik Friso of Oranje (1711-1751) as the heir-stadholder of all the Seven United Provinces in 1747. It is the period of the struggles between the factions of the (Protestant) Orangists and (mostly Catholic) republican Patriots (Magistrates). In the preface the writer(s) - is it Dr. S.J. de Bock, who is repeatedly mentioned? - state that in order to avoid loss of information they decided to undertake the job of writing down all applicable events of the difficulties, struggles and alterations, if possible supported with official documents. The table of contents at the end of the work sums up the discussed matters relating to taxes, loans, elections of ministers and clergyman, governmental changes, differences in opinion in the church council, etc. All in all a very thorough account and important as a case study of this turbulent period concentrating on a military frontier town in the north of the Netherlands. Judging from the catchword ''Op'' between the preface and the main work (which doesn't match), it seems possible that an ''Opdracht'' (dedication) was inserted between those two parts. However, all other located copies (we only found 4 other copies) also have only the 8 preliminary pages. Good copy.
NCC (4 other located copies); not in Tiele, Van Doorninck and KVK.
