First and only edition of a classicist epic poem, such as much en vogue in the 18th century, by the Dutch poet Frans van Steenwijk (1715 - 1788). As friend of Sybrand Feitama and a well-to-do citizen, he devoted his life entirely to literature. He also wrote some tragedies, mostly on historical subjects. Our copy is of special interest  for its beautiful engraved title-plate in 2 states, one of which is luxuriously handcoloured.

Good large-paper copy from the library of I. Meulman (bookplate with the motto 'Grypt als 't rypt' on verso of front cover).- (Top of spine dam.; sl. rubbed  at the corners).
