(10), 642, (14); (2), 514, (10) pp. The first two of three volumes of the Dutch edition of the popular periodical "The Guardian" by Sir Richard Steele (1672-1729), which started in England in 1711. These publications with instructive and moral reflections on contemporary events, published in parts, and written in the form of speeches, letters and short essays became very popular in the 18th century and the genre became known in Dutch literary history as "Spectatoriale Geschriften" (Spectatorial Writings), after "The Spectator", the title of the most famous publication of the genre both in England and in the Netherlands. Very good set.
