First and only edition of an educational work on garden designs in the Louis XIII, XIV, XV and XVI styles, explained by the greatest of Dutch twentieth century garden architects, Leonard Springer (1855 - 1940). This is the first and only set of plates published in this series. Springer received his training at the horticultural school of the Royal Dutch Horticultural Society in Amsterdam.  In 1880 he won a contest of the city of Arnhem, which resulted in the design of a city park. He was a teacher at the Rijkstuinbouwschool an agricultural college in Wageningen. He wrote a large number of articles for several horticultural magazines, usually on the history of horticulture and dendrology.
